In early-September 2009, Luxo filed a lawsuit against Disney and Pixar alleging copyright infringement. The Luxo company didn’t have a problem with Pixar using their unique lamps in their films, but using the Luxo company name, was another story.
According to the complaint, Disney-Pixar’s limited-edition novelty lamp, “Luxo Jr.” used the company’s name on the packaging without permission. In addition, Walt Disney Word featured a life-sized robotic “Luxo” lamp in the park’s “Living Character Initiative” attraction without permission in June 2009.
