Apotheosis of Washington, George Washington Zeus

I’m still reading “The Lost Symbol,” thought I would share some images and information that go along with the story.

The George Washington Zeus statue is on the second floor of the National Museum of American History. The statue, commissioned in 1832, depicts George Washington as Zeus.

Next is the “Apotheosis of Washington,” a gigantic fresco that spans the interior dome of the Capitol Rotunda. It depicts George Washington’s “apotheosis,” or transformation into a god.

I’ve compiled the pictures and full information/ details on the pages listed below…

there is fine line between genius and insanity. no offence but dont you wonder where dan brown falls? its very intresting you all googled george washington zeus….,i mean you should have been satisfied you are all insane in the membrane.

The fine line between genius and ignoramose is research. :) Brown appears to do an enormous amount of research. Also, did anyone notice his books are “fiction”? I never heard of these symbols in DC and am fasinated. Maybe, lenny, you are also a teacher and will have many students.

I am reading the book now and stopped to look up the artwork. This is interesting to learn about American mythology. But I have to say the story and writing are not very good. The science and internet technology descriptions are so inaccurate that I thought those sections must be intended as comic relief.

  • i’m reading the lost symbol and i went to look up george washington zeus too! i never knew any of this, but i think its really cool cheers!

I am reading “The Lost Symbol” and also Googled to find out weather the story about pictures on the interior dome of the Capitol Rotunda and the Washington-Zeus statue are true. Thanks a lot for the amazing pictures. I need to visit Washington DC again to see the real things.

Only just got a copy of Dan Brown’s – Lost Symbol and the story
is quite captivating, just got to Chapter 20 and had to google
George Washington Zeus to confirm if I was being captivated
by some wild crazy writer’s imagination or real and actual pics of
    the Capitol Rotunda.
Never been to America but am captivated by the story line
and look forward to visiting (Washington D.C.)
