If you think Walmart’s MoneyCard or GreenDot’s MoneyPak is a great idea, think again. My daughter received one last year. I activated it and put it away after buying a subscription to an online game she wanted to play. When her subscription ran out, I went to check the balance on the GreenDot card and lo-and-behold a good $12 was taken for a usage fee. If you are in a position where you don’t know what to give as a gift, go with a gift card and avoid these pre-paid debit cards!
They charge you $3 dollars a month and then $3 everytime I put money on it, that is only $9 a month. Way better then paying $25 a pop for overdraft fees!
